What are the category values for Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure is typically recorded as two numbers, written as a ratio like this: (Systolic/Diastolic). Your blood pressure rises with each heartbeat and falls when your heart relaxes between beats. Blood Pressure can change from minute to minute with changes in posture, exercise, stress, or sleep.


Category  Systolic   Diastolic
Normal Less than 120 and  Less than 80
Elevated 120-129 and  Less than 80

High Blood Pressure

(Stage 1)

130-139 or 80-89

High Blood Pressure

(Stage 2)

140 or Higher  or   90 or higher

Hypertensive Crisis

(Consult your doctor)

 Higher than 180 or  Higher than 120
